With the success of the Marilyn Merlot series in 1985, an attempt was made to produce a white wine with the same label. As history will tell us, the Marilyn Merlot's took the limelight and Marilyn Chardonnays were never bottled again. There is not history as to how many of these bottles were produced, but based on the history here at eBay, very few of these have ever been auctioned. Beginning in 1985 as a playful idea, bringing together the iconic image of Marilyn Monroe and some of Napa Valley's finest Merlot wine, Marilyn Merlot has itself become a legend and is perhaps the most sought-after of all "collectible" wines.    Why collect wines as an investment? Every once in a while a "following" develops for an item that is in limited supply. Whether it be coins, stamps, hot wheels or old posters, the value increases as the "following" increases. Each vintage has a known, limited quantity of wines produced adding to its value. The "older" it gets, the more valuable it gets and unlike traditional collectibles, most good wines "improve with age".
