Description
This hex sign represents "GOOD FORTUNE" Hex signs originated with the Pennsylvania Dutch Settlers, not any sort of witchcraft or such, as sometimes believed. The settlers painted these bright geometric patterns near the peaks of their barn roofs. The patterns and colors used represented various good fortunes. These designs can be found throughout their quilting, pottery, and other aspects of daily life. One of the most popular elements is the six-pointed star. The German word for six, "sechs", was misinterpreted by the English as "hex", hence the term "hex sign". Hex signs use both color and design elements to convey various good fortunes. This sign uses the following colors/design elements to represent the following: BLACK- Protection (binding agent for all of the colors/elements) RED- Love WHITE- Purity ORANGE- Career/Success YELLOW- Life GREEN- Fertility BLUE- Protection This hex sign design represents "Good Fortune". The white background is used to represent purity in all things. The star design represents good fortune in love and career/success. The smaller starburst pattern and represents fertility, protection and life. These symbols are repeated in the outer blue, green and yello arches. Circles are used to represent things that continue without end. The outer black and red pattern symbolizes unending love and protection. The overall theme of this sign is to wish its owner good fortune in all aspects of life. This is to be considered not only in the home, but in the field as well...as crops would be of obvious importance to the early settlers. This sign measures 24" in diameter and is made on 1/4"plywood. All of my hex signs are my original designs (unless noted otherwise), and may not be recreated by anyone. I do not repeat designs, so, your sign is truly unique! All signs are drawn and painted by hand. I hand cut templates and such for each sign that I make. If you do not see a hex sign listed that suits your needs…just ask! I can custom create you a sign to represent all of the good fortune and meaning that you wish! Signs typically take about one week to create. The time varies due to the complexity of the pattern. Signs can be custom made with family initials, insignia, coat of arms, etc, as well! I enjoy a challenge! All signs are sealed with numerous coats of sealant. Signs come with a certificate that outlines the colors, patterns and meaning of the sign. I will also send you tips for hanging and care of your sign. You will need to apply sealant to your sign every now and then to continue protecting the sign. The sealant will weather due to the elements, so the frequency of re-applying will vary depending on where you live. Hex signs make GREAT GIFTS! They can be used as theme gifts for weddings or Christmas….or ANY occasion! Don't be fooled...these are unique signs, not mass reproductions. And...signs painted on wood do not warp, crack, fade, etc., like some want you to believe. Yes, you will need to buy a $3-$4 can of sealant at some point and spray it, BUT, you have an original design!!! When I began selling these on e-bay YEARS ago, noone else was selling them. I stand behind the quality and durability of my work 100%. Please check out my feedback...you will immediately know which sales were for hex signs!!! I have never had a disappointed customer, nor have I had any complaints or problems with my signs! Copyright 2003 "Coe Brook Designs" Thank you for looking!
