He is known for his ability to skillfully combine quality materials into sculptural yet functional forms. This Golden Delicious Apple Door Knocker is cast in solid brass. It was hand-crafted in Rhode Island using the age old art of foundry casting. During the process molten brass is heated to over 2000 degrees farenheit then carefully poured into a hand made sand mold. This mold is used ONLY ONCE giving each door knocker a unique character. This apple was hand polished and a Verde green patina was applied to its leaf stem. It is coated with a clear lacquer to protect its original polished finish. To ensure consistent high quality at all stages of metal casting process, Michael Healy works from his own foundry in Rhode Island.
