This company was founded by J. R. Bunting in 1827 as a mattress company, but shortly after World War I they began producing cut-out and embossed metal gliders and chairs that were inspired by Victorian designs, becoming the FIRST American designer of outdoor furniture. Before this time, Americans had copied the designs of French or English outdoor furniture.My husband took the glider apart and sanded all pieces w/ three grades of emery cloth (metal sandpaper) – coarse, medium, and fine – and hand brushed them w/ Rustoleum primer. After the primer was cured, he then hand brushed them with four coats of Rustoleum exterior Colonial Red paint. We have been restoring and selling vintage gliders and chairs for two years now at a local antique shop and have a waiting list for our work, but wanted to offer this fine piece of nostalgia to our loyal eBay customers as well!The glider is in excellent condition and glides smoothly, like you’re floating on a cloud! The seat and frame are sturdy and sound (there were NO rusted through spots) and all four straps are original, in excellent condition, and attached w/ new chrome nuts and bolts.
