Description
64k Water Softener with Fleck 5600 Metered Control Valve High Flow Scale Sentry Water Conditioner Salt-Free System Requires No Backwash No Wastewater Virtually Maintenance Free! Most water contains water hardness, which is a combination of calcium and magnesium ions. When present in your water these ions will bond together and form scale that builds up over time. As the scale builds up it restricts the water flow through your plumbing, and reduces the efficiency of water appliances such as water heaters and dishwashers. Your faucets and other water fixtures will get unsightly white, flaky residue built up on them. The calcium and magnesium ions also attach themselves to soap and detergent which decreases their ability to clean, and promotes the formation of soap scum. Traditional water softeners use ion exchange to exchange the calcium and sodium ions with sodium (salt) ions. The disadvantages of this method are that salt is added to your water, it requires regular maintenance and purchasing of salt, it removes beneficial minerals, takes 3 - 4 ft.2 of floor space, and has to regenerate regularly, which involves rinsing the system in a salt water solution and then washing the salty water down the drain. Since regeneration of the system is required, electricity is needed to power the control valve. The Scale Sentry systems use Filtersorb media to convert the magnesium and calcium ions into inert crystals, and require no salt or electricity, do not waste any water, add nothing to the water, do not remove any beneficial minerals, and take up less than 1 ft.2 of floor space. In addition, whereas regular water softeners do nothing for existing scale in pipes, the crystals formed by the Scale Sentry systems will convert existing scale to crystal form as they pass by, eventually removing existing scale entirely! To help increase the efficiency and longevity of your new Scale Sentry system, a two canister Big Blue filter system is included in the price. The first canister is a sediment filter, this removes sediment and particulates to ensure the Scale Sentry system is functioning at peak efficiency. The second canister is a carbon block filter, this filter removes chlorine, tastes, odors, & chemicals, protecting the Scale Sentry system and ensuring the longest life possible. Since the ions have an electrical charge, they are attracted to anything without a charge, namely your pipe walls and plumbing fixtures. As water with the calcium and magnesium ions passes through your plumbing they attach themselves to the piping walls and form scale. Over time the scale increases, slowly closing off the pipe and restricting the flow of water through it. The calcium and magnesium ions will randomly attain a configuration where they are converted into neutral crystals. Since these crystals have no charge they are not attracted to the pipe walls and do not form scale. Also, due to their negative charge they will attract the charged ions in pre-existing scale and carry some of it away from the pipe walls with them. How the Filtersorb System Works The Filtersorb system works by utilizing the crystal form of the ions. As the water passes through the Filtersorb system the calcium and magnesium ions run into the Filtersorb media and attach themselves to it. The unique configuration of the Filtersorb particles work as a template, causing the ions to convert into crystals and attracting more ions to add to the crystal.. (A similar process can be seen with a glass of saltwater, a plain glass of salt water will do nothing, however, if you place a piece of string or yarn in the glass the salt attaches to it and begins to form crystals). Once the crystals have reached the proper size, a mere few nanometers (microscopic) they break loose from the media and continue on, neutralized and unable to form scale. This means the calcium and magnesium are still in your water, but in such a state that they won't cause problems, at worst you will see occasional spotting from the crystals, but this isn't the hardened scale that you would see with untreated water, it simply wipes clean. As the crystals travel through your pipes, their neutral charge attracts the charged ions in existing scale, gradually removing it until there is no remaining scale in your pipes.
