The Wine Advocate Tightly-packed with notes of citrus oil, orange rind, white peach, honeysuckle, and brioche, the medium to full-bodied 1996 La Grande Dame Brut should age well for 15-20 years. Crisp, fresh, and backward, it is another brilliant example from the exquisite 1996 vintage. Score: 95. —Robert Parker, December 2005. Price: $199.99              Winemaker's notes: La Grande Dame 1996 is a pale gold-green color with brilliant reflections that are typical of the vintage. Effervescence is delicate and extremely steady. On the nose this wine is exceptionally elegant. Dominant floral notes (mint and white flowers) mingle with hints of fresh fruit (citrus fruits, fresh almonds). As it undergoes aeration, riper notes of vanilla and nougat come to the fore, giving a pleasant roundness to the wine. At this stage a typical Chardonnay characteristic, crisp elegance, clearly prevails over aromatic strength. In the mouth, the Pinot Noir reveals its true personality. Fruity notes (white peaches, grapefruit and bergamot) dominate an energetic attack on the palate, which is prolonged by the structure and roundedness of the wine. The balance, a combination of freshness and vigour, is ideal. With a finish that is extremely persistent and clean, mineral notes add force to this noble wine. La Grande Dame 1996 is based on a blend of eight Grands Crus traditionally used for this wine. The blend is dominated by Pinot Noir grapes (62.5%), which come from Ay in the vallée De la Marne, and Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay and Bouzy in the Montage de Reims. The Chardonnay grapes, (37.5%) come from vineyard plots in Avize, Oger, and Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs. The bottle comes with original gift box. Both are in perfect condition. Please see pictures provided.   The flagship bottling of Veuve Clicquot has always struck us a being a step ahead of the class in terms of yeasty richness and aged complexities, and so again La Grande Dame has gone well beyond fruit in its successful pursuit of intensity and unabashed autolysis. A deep and involving wine with an amplified sense of substance in the mouth, it is finished with a noticeable edge of acidity, but its ample flavors do not abate and its scant closing stiffness seems a minor price to pay for the unrelenting richness that is the wine's essential gift. Therefore this bottle has become highly sought after as a collectors bottle and would make a great gift for any collector of rare & fine bottles or as a perfect gift for that special collector. If you are looking for something really special for the person who has everything or is impossible to shop for, This might make a perfect gift.
